I can’t walk past a bookstore without going inside. I prefer the quaint, independent shops with lots of nooks and crannies, but if I see a Barnes and Noble, I’ll go there too. I have gone out shopping and come home with shopping bags of books from different stores. I can wander for hours, to the point where my shopping companions give up, leave me there, and say they’ll find me later. My favorite are the shops that have a shop cat or shop dog. The cat is usually curled up asleep on a display table, and the dog usually follows you around. If they have a few overstuffed armchairs where you can sit and browse, the dog will curl up by your feet.
But this shop is in Alnwick Station, in Northumberland, England! It was an abandoned train station that was transformed into a spectacular bookstore. They even have a suspended model train track from the ceiling with the train circling around and across the store above your head. Sadly, I’ve never been there. Probably a good thing. They would have to push me out every day at closing time. What is your favorite independent bookstore? Tell me in the comments section!
